5月に行われる「葵祭」

“Aoi Matsuri” in May

“Aoi Matsuri”, “Jidai Matsuri”, “Gion Festival” are well-known as the three major festivals in Kyoto and crowded by many tourists.

Among them, “Aoi Matsuri” is carried out in May, and people who wear costumes of the Heian Period parade through from Kamigamo Shrine to Shimogamo Sharine.

The origin of the festival was for when Emperor Kinmei(Year 540-571) made a festival for famine and great plague due to poor harvest.

Aoi of “Aoi Matsuri” is a plant and used fro costumes and also decoration for cows and horses.

Since the old Japanese traditional costumes are seen there, the parade is surrounded by a throng of spectators.

「葵祭」「時代祭」「祇園祭」は、
京都の三大祭として有名で多くの観光客で賑わいます。
そのうち「葵祭」は5月に行われ、
平安時代の衣装をつけた人たちの行列が
上鴨神社、下鴨神社まで通ります。
祭りの起源は欽明天皇(540〜571年)の頃に
凶作で飢餓疫病が流行ったため、
天皇が祭礼を行ったことです。
「葵祭」の葵は植物で、衣装や牛馬の飾りに使われます。
日本の昔の装束を見られるので、
行列のそばにはたくさんの見物客でいっぱいです。
