The illustrator, Kyousai Kawanabe who was born in 1831 played an active part by the late Tokugawa period, that was called “Gaki” was popular. He became a disciple of Ukiyoe (Japanese woodblock prints) artist “Kuniyoshi Utagawa” at 6 years old, and entered Karino group at only 9 years old, then finished ascetic practices. The exhibition “KYOSAI-Master painter and his student Josiah Conder” since June, has received attention.The British architect, Josiah Conder, who designed Mitsubishi Building No. 1 of the exhibition place, was a Japanese art lover and was a disciple of Kyosai, and introduced his work to foreign countries.
