Utimizu in the Summer

There is wisdom of a living thing called “Uchimizu (water sprinkling)” which is water in the street that is at the front of a house in the morning and evening time during Japanese summers.
“Uchimizu” is effective to reduce dust stirring up and cool down a high temperature road, and these make them feel cooler. Utimizu happens morning and evening time when the sun does not rise. It will get more muggy if you do it in the noon.
The water sprinkling was for “Hospitality” for visitors in the old days. There is thoughts of the Shinto in this. Some people use the remaining hot water for a bath to save money.
