Ekiben “Shiumai Bento”

“Shiumai Obento”, which is sold at Shin Yokohama Station is probably the most popular lunch box  called “Ekiben” selling at train stations in Japan. It’s been released since 1975 and still is very popular as selling about 19000 per day.
Shiumai is also called “Shu Mai” and is one of the Chinese foods, filled with meat wrapped in thin skin and is steamed. Since China town is in Yokohama, that may be the reason why it’s so popular there. Not only “Shu Mai” is in the Bento but also rolled eggs and deep fried chicken, simmered bamboo shoots and apricot etc are also in there.
